Volunteering? Do any WHOers donate their time to help others?
Worked with Caritas in Spain.
Want to Volunteer at West Brompton Cemetery and Park for exercise and nature but Covid stopped that.
If I could turn back time I would have liked to have work in counselling and addictions.

Did a couple of days in Cancer Research shop, on the till. Loved it but not one around where I've moved to.
Even in a charity shop we had to secure the expensive stuff due to shoplifters

Re: Volunteering? Do any WHOers donate their time to help others?
I volunteered one summer on Sundays at a local cricket club and some week nights at a tennis club, basically helping the senior coach and running some sessions myself.

My longest stint was at a local football club running the academy and being a committee member. I did it for 4 years but felt I couldn't do anymore, 2 teams have been produced for the first eligible age group to play competively, but there is only so much you can do with 4, 5 and 6 year olds and found i was repeating the same old thing. I couldn't commit to running a team as the demands on time were too much, especially with a season ticket and long working hours. Then I could not commit to the crucial pre season part due to my wedding and honeymoon so thought it was time to hand the reigns over to someone else.

Re: Volunteering? Do any WHOers donate their time to help others?
Spent close to 20 years running kids football club that ended up growing and doing mentoring, taking kids on residential trips etc. Finished 2 years ago as it got too big and it needed someone else to lead it. No-one did so it closed down 6 months later partly due to Covid, partly because no-one wants to volunteer to do all the boring paperwork stuff that goes with local charities.

Well, before this Covid crap, I was working about 4 days a week, playing in care homes. Just a couple of hours a day, but I enjoyed it.
It did seem weird at first, playing without a PA system.
Lately I’ve been doing some marshalling for an NHS vaccination and test centre.

For the last 2 1/2 years I’ve run a not for profit type social association which has raised over £40,000 to provide kids with equipment for American Football teams across the UK.

We’ve done this by raffling NFL memorabilia.

We’ve also spent out £10,000 on giving freebies to our members. One example is buying over 50 NHS workers a NFL jersey of their choice as a thank you.

If anyone is interested, search “Hail Mary Hits” on Facebook.

Norman that is a good passage to live by. When you give to the poor do not tell anyone about it.
Do not do the cause for applause.

Are you a cunt like Normannomates? or a happy go lucky stable poster?

Re: Volunteering? Do any WHOers donate their time to help others?
We help the local dogs home, by looking after puppies that cannot be with the big dogs, no vaccines etc. We keep them until they are found a home. We’ve had 10 in the last year. Sounds nice, but lots of clearing up poop and piss, and a few nights lost sleep with puppies crying. But they are funny little buggers. Strangely quite a few of them go to Holland, who apparently control there dog population so well that they have a shortage of puppies and import them from Spain!

When my kids were younger I did a great deal of fund raising for the school. Can't be arsed any more though, so I donate instead.

From the start of December to last weekend I was working evenings and weekends on the vaccine rollout. Had four days not working in that time, which included the bank holidays - I worked out that in those three months I worked five months. I'm knackered but pleased to have played my part.
